The MML Annual Lecture: Learning languages - the Premier League

MML Annual Lecture 2015

Arsenal in the Community believes in harnessing the potential of every learner irrespective of social background, ability, gender or ethnicity. InÌýfact, they believe in the value of every individual because, not despite, ofÌýthose things. The world is diverse; its populationsÌýspeakÌýmany languages and enjoyÌýmany cultures. Football is a world that crosses borders and unites others. Come and find out how Arsenal Double Club is working with schools in North London to bring together two powerful forces for change:Ìýfootball and languages. In our open lecture, we will share with you the successes and challenges of this programme and illustrate how language learning through football can teach more than how to pass the ball orÌýhow to argue against an unfair offside decision in French, German, Spanish, Italian and Portuguese. We hope to show youÌýthat by learning the universal rules of fair play in football and seeing life from a different cultural perspective through language learning, we can change attitudes and behaviour, and open hearts and minds to the possibility of a better and more cohesive society. Why not join the premier league?

Speakers: Steve Eadon, Project Coordinator, Arsenal Double ClubÌýand Bernadette Holmes MBE, Project AdvisorÌý
