About:

Supervisor: Prof Henriette Hendriks

Research Topic: The development of temporal expression in English by L1 speakers of Thai

Nuphak started his PhD in Theoretical and Applied Linguistics in October 2023 at Christ鈥檚 College under supervision of Prof Henriette Hendriks after working as an adjunct lecturer in the English Department, Chulalongkorn University, for many years. His study is fully funded by the Queen Sirikit Scholarship under the Royal Patronage of Her Majesty Queen Sirikit the Queen Mother of Thailand.

Nuphak is originally from Bangkok, Thailand. He obtained his BA in English at Chulalongkorn University in 2014. After his undergraduate study, he went on to do his MA in English Linguistics at University College London and received his degree in 2015. Supervised by Prof Bas Aarts, Nuphak used corpora to study declarative subordinators in English. His MA dissertation was titled 鈥淗ow and when as declarative subordinators in English鈥.

Apart from being a language enthusiast, Nuphak is an active runner. He enjoys exploring hidden gems in 澳门六合彩开奖记录 where he can train and get himself ready for his next marathon.

Research

Nuphak employs the meaning-oriented and form-oriented approaches to investigate how Thai learners acquire the concepts of tense and aspect in English, with a special focus on English future expression. He also aims to examine whether typology influences second language acquisition of temporality. His research interests are in first and second language acquisition, multilingualism, psycholinguistics, and syntax.

Scholarships/Prizes: The Queen Sirikit Scholarship
