About: 

Joseph Prestwich is a Teaching Associate specializing in theatre and performance and works regularly as an actor and theatre practitioner.Ìý

He was awarded a PhD in German and Theatre and Performance Studies from King’s College London in July 2022, having previously trained as an actor at the Guildford School of Acting. Prior to joining °ÄÃÅÁùºÏ²Ê¿ª½±¼Ç¼, Joseph worked as a Lecturer in German at King’s College London (2021 – 2022).

Joseph is Assistant Director of the Arts Council England funded improvisation company ShakeItUp Theatre, and is currently working with the Young Vic Theatre on their theatre-in-education project INNOVATE (2021 – 2023). Ìý Ìý Ìý

Teaching interests: 

•ÌýÌý ÌýGerman-language theatre and performance (18th-century to the present day) •ÌýÌý ÌýBertolt Brecht’s theatre •ÌýÌý ÌýTurkish-German literature and filmÌý •ÌýÌý ÌýTranslation

Research interests: 

•ÌýÌý ÌýTheatre in translation •ÌýÌý ÌýAnglo-German theatrical exchange •ÌýÌý ÌýEuropean theatre networks •ÌýÌý ÌýGoethe’s theatrical practiceÌýÌýÌýÌý

Recent research projects: 

Joseph is currently developing a practice-based postdoctoral research project on Goethe’s approaches to acting and theatre-making. Ìý
