Professor Weiss-Sussex rescues 80-year-old masterpiece written by German Jewish novelist

Hermann Struck

Professor Godela Weiss-Sussex, Fellow in German at King’s College, has just published Die daheim blieben (Those Who Stayed at °ÄÃÅÁùºÏ²Ê¿ª½±¼Ç¼) by the German-Jewish author, Georg Hermann.

The , which was left unfinished at the time of Hermann’s death in Auschwitz and brought to light in remarkable circumstances, concerns the lives of members of a Berlin Jewish family across a set of episodes from 1933 to 1938, giving a compelling narrative response to those dark times.
