Professor Dominic Keown wins prestigious Catalan prize

Professor Dominic Keown has won the prestigious Ramon Llull Foundation award, for contributing to the promotion of Catalan language and culture throughout Europe and beyond.

The recipients of the 11th awards are the Hungarian cultural programmer J贸zsef Kardos, the Catalan-German poet and translator 脌xel Sanjos茅, the Russian translator and teacher Nina Avrova and Professor Keown.

The event, held at the National Auditorium of Andorra in Ordino, was hosted by the Andorran Minister for Culture, Youth and Sports, M貌nica Bonell, accompanied by the Minister of Culture of the Government of Catalonia, Nat脿lia Garriga; the director of the Ramon Llull Foundation, Teresa Colom; and the director of the Institut Ramon Llull, Pere Almeda.

The Catalan Minister of Culture, Nat脿lia Garriga, highlighted the high profile enjoyed in recent times by 鈥渃ulture made in Catalan-speaking areas: from film to pop culture鈥.听

Professor Keown has published widely on Catalan and Iberian matters. His current interests extend to the interface between Catalan and Spanish creativity, transnational issues in the cultural production of Catalonia and the metacritical divide between Hispanism and Iberian Studies.
