Disonancias: The Language of Irreverence in Creative Media in Mexico (film,opera,poetry and art):听A programme of talks and interactive screenings by artists and academics from Mexico.

Convenors: Alfredo Modenessi and Erica Segre.

A collaboration between CLAS, the Centre for Mexican Studies UNAM-KCL and Trinity College.

Programme runs from Friday 16th October to Friday 20th November 2015.

Registration is Free and All Are Welcome. Films are subtitled.

1. ON FILM:听G眉eros,听Alfonso Ruizpalacios (2014).听Friday, 16 October 2015

Screening of Alfonso Ruizpalacios'听award-winning film 鈥淕眉eros鈥, an irreverent drama and mock road movie set in the midst of student protests and the crisis of dissent in a delirious Mexico City, introduced by the director; screening followed by Q&A. This co-production with the UNAM, obtained the prize for best first feature in the Berlin Film Festival 2014 (along with other recognitions worldwide) and the 鈥楢riel鈥 for Best Film of 2014 awarded by the Mexican Film Academy.

2. ON ART AND OPERA: Marcela听Rodr铆guez. Friday, 23 October 2015

Marcela Rodr铆guez, critically acclaimed composer. Presentation and Screening of the video of her opera 鈥楲as cartas de Frida鈥/ 鈥楩rida Kahlo鈥檚 Letters鈥 (2011) performed in Mexico City and recorded for Canal 22. Staging directed by Jesusa Rodr铆guez, with soprano Catalina Pereda and the Tempus Fugit Ensemble. Based on the surprising and irreverent correspondence of the celebrated artist, revolutionary and icon of deviant sexuality. Followed by Q&A with the composer.

Prof. Aurora Gonz谩lez Rold谩n, Facultad de Filosof铆a y Letras UNAM, 鈥楽or Juana In茅s de la Cruz and the Poetics of Freedom鈥 on the iconic poet, feminist and intellectual of the colonial Golden Age, who struggled against orthodoxy and sexism in pursuit of creative ingenuity.
