My PhD dissertation looks at media and identity construction in the so-called Donetsk and Luhansk 鈥淧eople鈥檚 Republics鈥� in eastern Ukraine. By making use of a variety of qualitative and quantitative research methods, I examine how both print and internet media are used to project identity markers to both local residents and the international community.
In addition to this, I work with the Department of Psychology on developing new ways to counter misinformation online. We use gamification to confer pre-emptive resistance against common misinformation techniques. One example of this is , an online game in which people take on the role of fake news creator.
