Inventing an Aesthetics of Anti-Racism: African Americans in Early Soviet Visual Culture

Christina Kiaer鈥檚 research specializes in Soviet art. She is the author of听Collective Body: Aleksandr Deineka at the Limit of Socialist Realism听(Chicago,听forthcoming Fall 2022);听Revolution Every Day: A Calendar听(Mousse, 2017, co-authored with Robert Bird and Zachary Cahill); and听Imagine No Possessions: The Socialist Objects of Russian Constructivism听(MIT, 2005). Her talk is drawn from her current research听project, 鈥淎n Aesthetics of Anti-racism: African Americans in Soviet Visual Culture.鈥 She is the Arthur Andersen Teaching and Research Professor at Northwestern University and, during this academic year, a Novo Nordisk Guest Professor at the Department of Arts and Cultural听Studies at the University of Copenhagen.听
